Anstey, Tim

  Tim Anstey
  Associate Technical Fellow


Tim Anstey is an Associate Technical Fellow with Boeing Commercial Airplanes. As Chief Architect, he leads a cross-functional team responsible for product strategy and integration of airplane information systems.  

A 17-year veteran of Boeing, Tim has spent the past decade designing and integrating system software and applications for the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and Onboard Network System across the Boeing fleet. Within industry, he was the technical focal for development of the Air Transport Association Electronic Logbook Interoperability specification and is a representative on the ARINC EFB Sub-committee.

In addition to his industry activities, Tim serves as Boeing’s representative to EASA for EFB regulatory activities.

Mr. Anstey is a graduate of the University of Washington, Seattle with a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. Before joining Boeing, his responsibilities included software design and development of consumer and business products for various companies within the Puget Sound region and in Washington State.


Bachan, Allan

Allan Bachan has spent 27 years in the industry as an aviation MRO software systems and domain expert. He is currently a Vice President at Oliver Wyman in its AAD (Aerospace, Aviation, and Defense) consulting practice. His concentration is on improving MRO business processes and enabling them with modern IT solutions.

Allan started out in the industry with a mid-sized commercial airline on the M&E business front as Manager of Technical Records, then he moved on to Maintenance Planning and Production Control and later M&E Information Systems. He then joined the M&E IT products arena and held Director and Principal positions with large global IT solutions companies. He has partnered and consulted with multiple airlines on their MRO business and IT projects globally.

Allan has brokered and managed relationships with; and is intimately knowledgeable on; most of the current market leading systems for MRO. He has solid experience with many clients spanning the evaluation and selection of COTS systems, to preparing the airline M&E departments for the project, and subsequently managing its solutions definition and realization.

Mr. Bachan holds a BS in Engineering Technology from Pennsylvania State University and is a Certified Project Manager from the British Standards Institute. He also has an Associate’s Degree in Production Management. 


Baiju, Jacob

Balakrishnan, Nishant

Nishant holds a degree in mechanical engineering, specialization in aeronautical engineering (air frames and engine) and business management. In his current role, he is responsible for business development of airbus smarter fleet solution powered by IBM technology.


Balbach, Simon

Simon has finished his pilot training at the Lufthansa Flight Training school in 2014. Being also an industrial engineer, Simon works for Lufthansa¹s Fuel Efficiency department as a consultant. His main task is to support the implementation of the post flight analyzer tool for Lufthansa. Simon is also responsible to define new KPI's allowing to further optimize Lufthansa's operations.


Bogie, Steve

Steve Bogie is currently with Air Canada in the position of Senior Director, Operational Information Systems and has overall responsibility for the organization’s operational IT systems. This role includes responsibility for the strategic vision and direction of the group’s IT systems and ensuring these are aligned with the overall business strategy and direction. In addition to leading the delivery and implementation of the strategic direction, Steve is responsible to ensure key strategic business partners are aligned with Air Canada’s Strategic Direction, goals and objectives.

Prior to his current position Mr. Bogie has held a number of senior roles in Corporate Strategy, Airline Operations, Customer Service and Community Relations and has operated his own Aviation consulting business.

Steve has over 30 years in Aviation, mostly with commercial Airline operators from regional carriers to a major international carrier. Mr. Bogie undertook his Business Administration studies at Kwantlen University College prior to entering the MBA program at Edinburgh Business School.


Brenny, Roland

Roland M. Brenny is Delta Air Lines’ Principal, Information Technology for Pilot and Flight Attendant Crew, Catering and Technical Operations applications.  Roland has spent the last four years specializing in mobile technology, deploying 40,000+ devices, supporting applications and management techniques.   Since joining the airline in 1996, Roland has concentrated on logistical applications for Flight Operations and Inflight Services.  He was key member of the integration applications team when Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines merged.   

Roland has more than 26 years in the Information Technology industry.  Along with transportation he has experience with utilities, government, insurance and manufacturing.  Roland also recently served on the Board of Directors of Red Lake Inc., a tribal owned business of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, of which he is an enrolled member.

Roland lives in Minneapolis and holds bachelor’s degrees in Computer Information Systems and Business Management from the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minn.

There he has worked as VP of Sales and Marketing (in charge of Middle East) and CEO of Bosnia and Herzegovina Airlines. He is currently working as Executive VP (Commerce) of Turkish Technic. He is also in charge of Business development.

History, Geopolitics and Balkan & ME affairs are among his personal interests. He is the co-author of 2 books.

Michael is an independent advisor, author and speaker.

With twenty-seven years’ experience in aviation, aerospace, defense, software and high-tech industries, Michael has distinguished himself in numerous positions of responsibility across diverse functions including corporate strategy, market analysis, scenario planning, mergers and acquisitions, enterprise architecture, technology implementation and process re-engineering.

DiMarco, Lorraine

Lorraine (Lori) DiMarco is the General Manager of Base Maintenance at Delta Air Lines’ Technical Operations Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  Lori leads a team of 1000+ aviation professionals working in 12 hangar bays and shops spread between 3 hangars. They perform maintenance on Delta’s fleet of over 740 aircraft and 1400 engines as well as MRO customers’ aircraft and engines. Lori has over 36 years of aviation maintenance experience.

Lori is a licensed Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician.   She started her career with Pan American World Airways in JFK after graduating from Aviation High School where she was the first woman to attend the school and the only woman amongst 2700 students during her freshman year. Lori has worked as an A&P Mechanic for TWA and FedEx. While at FedEx she rose thru the ranks to become the Managing Director of Memphis Line Maintenance and then the Managing Director of Maintenance Planning, Control and Performance. While at FedEx she led organizations that included Line Maintenance, Maintenance Control, Aircraft Routing, Maintenance Planning, Tech Services, Fuel Farm, In-to plane Fueling and Pushback and Towing.

Lori was the Director of Seattle Line Maintenance with Alaska Airlines and was part of the team that improved Alaska’s on time performance.

She has held the FAR 119 Director of Maintenance position with FedEx, North American Airlines and Shuttle America. Lori has also taught the Airframe and Powerplant licensing program at her alma mater.

Lori holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Business Administration.


Gaitan, Edward

Ed Gaitan is the General Manager of Flight Operations Business Technology at Delta Air Lines. He is responsible for managing the tablet EFB program, the Flight Operations Technical Support Desk and the technology portfolio of Delta's 12,000+ member pilot group. As Program Manager for the Windows tablet EFB project, he directed the implementation from initial proof of concept to deployment across all fleets to all pilots. His team manages the distribution of digital navigation charts, flight manuals and bulletins to the tablets, including content assignment and related MDM functions. In addition, he is the primary Flight Ops contact with vendors supporting the tablet initiative, including Microsoft, Jeppesen and AirWatch. Previously, he has managed the Cockpit Communication and Navigational Database teams. He began his airline career with Pan Am in 1988 and holds a Masters degree in Information Systems from Harvard University.


Hegner, Al

Al Hegner, Director of Delta Air Line Base Maintenance Operations is responsible for over 1,550 maintenance professionals performing work on Delta Air Lines aircraft as well as customer aircraft. Prior to this position, Al led the team that oversaw Delta Air Lines heavy maintenance of aircraft at repair stations across the world.

Al has worked in various disciplines within Delta Technical Operation for over the past nine years and work in corporate aviation and government agencies before his career at Delta. Al received a bachelor’s and masters in aviation management and aerospace industrial management respectively.


Hint, Brian

Brian Hint is an Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) with the Federal Aviation Administration. For the last 5 years, he has supported the Future Flight Technologies Branch (AFS-430) located at FAA Headquarters, Washington DC. The focus of the branch is the integration of evolutionary and revolutionary technology, along with new technology-based operations, into the FAA’s vision for the Next Generation Air Transportation System. Brian is the FAA Flight Standards subject matter expert for Electronic Flight Bag and Aeronautical Information Standards Development.

Brian has over 15 years of aviation experience to include 3 years at a part 121 air carrier. He is an active Instructor Pilot flying the C-5M Super Galaxy for the U.S. Air Force Reserves.


Hurley, Ken

Ken Hurley is currently the Performance Engineer and EFB Administrator for Sun Country Airlines.  He has 40 years of experience in airplane performance engineering and EFB application software development, including the first laptop-based performance tool at FedEx in 1990.  Prior to joining Sun Country in 2011, Ken led the EFB application development team at Teledyne Controls.

Ken is a former chairman of the IATA SCAP Committee, the ATA Aircraft Performance Network and the FAA/JAA Performance Harmonization Working Group.  Ken also holds an FAA Aircraft Dispatcher license.

Ken received his BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1975.


Irrgang, Michael E.

Mike Irrgang provides consulting services to the aviation industry primarily in areas related to airline operations. Some typical projects include fuel conservation, delay/disruption analysis, delay costing, delay reduction, process re-engineering in System Operations Control and Station Operations.

Irrgang has been working in the airline industry since 1985. He began by creating and running a small business unit at Texas Instruments, developing and selling systems to airlines for operations decision support, including developing one of the first airport gate management systems and the first irregular operations system. Both of these were installed in multiple airlines. Later, he worked for PROS Revenue Management, initially as a revenue management consultant and later as vice president of sales & marketing.

In addition to being a supplier, Irrgang also worked in Flight Operations at American Airlines, and was the vice president of operations planning at both LAN Chile and Air Jamaica. With American Airlines, Mike worked with System Operations Control (SOC) and Flight Operations on fuel conservation and on irregular operations analysis and reduction. While at LAN Chile, Irrgang was the program manager for planning and implementing fleet, SOC and airport projects. He also worked with IATA and ICAO committees on ATM route and process modifications in Latin America. Irrgang interfaced with the Chilean government related to ATM and airport improvements in Chile. At Air Jamaica, he managed most elements of daily airline operations, as well as being involved with strategic planning, fleet planning, route planning and pilot union negotiations. He also worked on ATM issues with the Jamaica CAA and as a board member of the Piarco FIR.

Irrgang has presented at many airline industry conferences, and has published six articles on irregular operations, fuel conservation, cargo operations, operational efficiency, revenue management, scheduling, and strategy in Aviation Week’s “Handbook of Airline …” series of books. Irrgang also holds two patents related to aviation solutions.

Irrgang has a BS in Mathematics from the University of Washington and an MS in Computer Science from Northwestern University. He has a private pilot’s license. He is completely fluent in Spanish, has lived in eight countries, and travelled to 86 countries, more than half in conjunction with his career.

John Knolla is Manager of the Product Support Engineering Group at LMI Aerospace – Engineering Services based in San Diego, CA.  He has 20 years of Technical and Management experience in Reliability, Maintainability and Safety Engineering; Integrated Logistics Support; Systems and Project Engineering; and Technical Documentation at companies such as Hawker-Beechcraft Corporation, Eclipse Aviation, Dassault FalconJet, ITT, and BAE Systems supporting all branches of the US Armed Services, leading airframe OEMs, and many commercial, foreign government and military customers. 

John holds a Commercial Pilot’s License, and has served on Air Transport Association Working Groups defining Digital Display and Flight Operations approaches for the airline industry, as well as the FAA/industry panel that developed the original Advisory Circular for the Certification, Airworthiness and Operational Use of Electronic Flight Bags.

A long time technical evangelist, John is a multi-discipline ‘big picture’ thought leader who seeks to realize the potential that modern standards, technology and applications promise, to assist OEMs, Tier 1 and 2 Suppliers and Operators to get the most out of new and legacy platforms.


Lenamon, Larry

Larry joined Ultramain Systems, Inc. in September 2012 as the Manager of Operational Experience. Larry’s background in the aviation industry, both in and out of the cockpit, has been a beneficial asset to the support of Ultramain's industry leading Onboard Systems software division.

Larry has been involved in virtually all areas of the Onboard Systems software,from development to customer support and new business development. Projects have comprised of customer functional design work, software development and testing support, product demonstrations, presentations at industry conferences and tradeshows related to electronic flight bag and electronic logbook, industry standards development participation, as well as participation in trade publication articles.

Prior to joining USI, Larry’s primary career was in the cockpit as a Pilot for the State of Texas, Trans World Express, Trans World Airlines, and American Airlines. On furlough from flying since 2002, Larry then worked as a Senior Engineer for American Airlines. His core duties involved 767/777 Fleet Operations Engineering with very active participation in AA's AIRCOM Server, EFB, ELB, FOQA, and 787 eEnabling programs along with responsibility as the AHM Administrator for American.

Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. He is married with three children.

Markou, Chris

Chris Markou is an Assistant Director for IATA's Operations responsible for the areas of Engineering - Maintenance and the Environment. Chris is working on Airline Operations Cost Management and Efficiency Improvement, exploring various cost reduction opportunities, efficiencies and synergies between the different airline functions.

Chris has initiated the “Paperless Aircraft Operations” industry Think Tank to innovate the Airline Maintenance Operations through acceptance of new technologies and electronic acceptance of current paper functions. He is the Secretary to IATA’s Maintenance Cost Task Force (MCTF), the Airline Cost Management Group (ACMG) and the Aircraft Leasing Advisory Group (ALAG).

Before joining IATA, Chris worked at Delta Air Lines in the Technical Operations (TechOps) Division. He developed the strategic framework in expanding TechOps into one of the leading airline MROs. Throughout his tenure at Delta he held various positions including Manager for Business Development and General Manager for Technical Sales – Marketing – Customer Service.

Before joining Delta, he was an Assistant Professor at Emory University and Research Professor at Georgia Tech. Chris holds graduate degrees from Georgia Tech (MS and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering) and from Emory University’s Business School (Executive MBA). Chris has a Diploma from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Aristotelian Univ. of Thessaloniki and he has worked at the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (a military MRO).

Rey, Jean-Thomas

Jean-Thomas Rey is Marketing Manager, Services for Snecma. He holds a Master’s degree in Air Transport Management from the French Civil Aviation University (ENAC). After graduating in 2009, he began his career at Sabena Technics as a Sales & Marketing Manager for the Technical Training business unit, where his role was to sell and promote a wide range of training services within the EMEA area. At the end of 2011, Jean-Thomas moved to GECI International where he held the position of Sales Support Engineer, in charge of airline marketing analyses for the SK-105 and F406 programs. In April 2013, he assumed his current role, dedicated to Services for civil engines (CFM56 and LEAP). He holds a Private Pilot License and has logged 100+ flight hours on aircraft such as C152, TB20 and CAP10.


Sabourin, Mario

Mario Sabourin, Sr. Product Manager, joined SITA's innovation team in 2008 to investigate and define new services around data and event management. He joined the Aircraft Services Solution Line in 2011 to bring SITA's e-Aircraft Application Services to market.  

Mario is responsible for eliciting EFB-related business requirements, defining business models and service architecture, conducting joint innovation programs with customers and partners (beta trial and Proof of Concept), product marketing and pricing, partnership management and other product management activities.

Prior joining SITA in May 2008, Mario held systems engineering and management positions in large global companies such as Motorola and Lockheed-Martin.

Mario is a graduate of McGill University (B. Eng. Electrical '88), Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal (M. Eng. Electrical '03), and Fordham University, NY (MBA in product management and corporate finance '08).  He also holds professional certifications in project management (PMP), product management (NPDP), and business process improvement (Six Sigma Green Belt)

Saunders, Paul

Paul is a trusted technology specialist who has been working for and advising MROs, airline operators, OEMs, and software vendors since 1998.

He has unparalleled expertise in aviation software design and mobility, having worked on apps used by pilots and engineers all over the world.

Paul is often called upon for speaking and writing engagements and is a regular contributor to AircraftIT Operations eJournal, Aviation Week, and other publications. When it comes to the adoption of emerging technology in aerospace, particularly with regards to mobility, Paul is a heavy weight visionary and geek.

Paul joined the TechSight/X team in September 2013 and serves as a global product manager spearheading flight operations, engineering services and mobile solutions. Paul is currently based in the UK.

Ahmet Yavuz SEROVA (52) has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, and an MS degree in Biomedical Engineering. Worked mostly in IT business as the co-founder, chief-engineer and CEO of two companies who served the customers 20+ years. Designed, developed, implemented and supported an Hospital Information System for small to mid-size hospitals, with loyal customers of up to 10-20 years of service.

Joined Turkish Airlines in Feb-2012 as CRM and Loyalty Manager, supporting business at IT side. Assigned to the current position in Turkish Technic, after serving for almost two years to complete the ongoing MRO Project and empower the IT directorate as a driver for change.


Stanley, Paul

Suarez, Rafael

Rafael joined Aeromexico in1995 Operations Engineer. In 1999 started to work with the Airport Customer Services Team.

He has also been pilot ground instructor and in 2003 became Operations Director for Mexico City Airport in SEAT (now AM Servicios), the biggest Ground handling Company within Mexico in the busiest hub.

Rafael has been involved in various projects within Grupo Aeromexico related with fuel savings, synergies, cost reduction and recently in the iPad Project achieving paperless cockpits for Aeromexico and in the near future for Aeromexico Connect.

He is an Aeronautical Engineer from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional with a Quality Control Diploma. As of 2006 he became the VP for Flight Operations, as well as SVP Operations of the former Charter Airline AM Travel.

Since July 2013 he became SVP Flight Operations for Grupo Aeromexico, which operates 2 airlines, Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect, with more than 120 aircrafts flying to 80 destinations in the Americas, Europe and Asia. 


Swiderski, Vincent

Vincent Swiderski is taking care of sales for Americas’ region for Smarter Fleet project, the collaboration between Airbus and IBM to help flying all commercial aircraft in the most efficient way thanks to digital technologies. Vincent is passionate about innovation and airlines’ universe. After a master degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical engineering, he joined Airbus in 2005, where he started as a support engineer for engines. Since then, he never stopped enjoying relationship activities with airlines, including several technical domains for engineering support as well as marketing for safety product. I his private life, Vincent loves mountaineering and Jazz. He can enjoy both of them in south of France where he lives.


Westlund, Chris

Chris joined the UTAS organization 2.5 years ago as a Customer Support Representative and has currently been working in the EFB program for a year.

Prior to joining UTC Aerospace Systems, Chris worked for Delta Airlines as a pilot instructor on A320 and Procedures Manager on the B757.  Chris has over 7000 hours of flight time and has served as a pilot for USAirways and Northwest Airlines.

Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in 1997 from the University of North Dakota.

Serdar joined AAR in 2007 as the Director of IT at Aircraft Services – Oklahoma where he was responsible for all IT functions at this facility. In 2009, he took a role with the MRO Group and started managing AAR’s custom MRO ERP system across all locations. Serdar’s primary focus is providing integrated business system solutions for both internal and external customers including but not limited to interfaces with customer and vendors, BI dashboards and other data analysis and decision making solutions as well as managing the enhancements for the MRO ERP system based on the new business requirements. In 2014, Serdar transitioned from the MRO Group to Corporate IT and also became responsible for the mobile application development projects.

Serdar holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Istanbul University and is based in Chicago.
