Anstey, Tim

Tim W. Anstey

Tim Anstey is an Associate Technical Fellow with Boeing Commercial Airplanes. As Chief Architect, he leads a cross-functional team responsible for product strategy and integration of airplane information systems.

A 17-year veteran of Boeing, Tim has spent the past decade designing and integrating system software and applications for the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and Onboard Network System across the Boeing fleet. Within industry, he was the technical focal for development of the Air Transport Association Electronic Logbook Interoperability specification and is a representative on the ARINC EFB Sub-committee.

In addition to his industry activities, Tim serves as Boeing’s representative to EASA for EFB regulatory activities.

Mr. Anstey is a graduate of the University of Washington, Seattle with a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. Before joining Boeing, his responsibilities included software design and development of consumer and business products for various companies within the Puget Sound region and in Washington State.

Baker, Daniel

Daniel Baker is the founder of FlightAware and has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2005. In this role, he directs all of the business units, leads worldwide business development, and drives corporate growth. Originally one of the principal developers of FlightAware technology, he now enjoys working directly with partners and customers in both industry (e.g., airline, cargo, business aviation) and government (e.g., air traffic management) to create mutually beneficial relationships that leverage FlightAware's technology and data to provide innovative and efficient solutions in aviation and travel.

Baker brings years of experience as a driving architect of rapid growth businesses from both the technology and business sides as well as enterprise sales and partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and governments. He has been in the Internet services business for over two decades and is a published author on the subject of Internet protocols. Baker is a regular speaker at aviation and technology conferences and serves as a member of the the Board of Directors at the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum.

Baker is a passionate photographer, pilot, and cyclist. He lives with his wife and daughter in Houston.

Baker holds an FAA Commercial Pilot certificate.

Baringo-Ezquerra, Jaime

Jaime Baringo Ezquerra is leading Business Development and Marketing for Digital Services with Airbus. He joined Airbus Commercial Airplanes in 2011.

Prior to that, Jaime held a number of positions in Airbus Defence and Space in both Europe and the Middle East, where he brought together an entity developing several multi-billion Command and Control systems for the region. Previously, he has also worked in other diverse industries such as Mobile Telephony and Oil & Gas.

Jaime has a MS in Computer Science from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.

Begis, Jean-Marie

With more than 25 years of experience in business development and implementation of mission critical mobile communications, aircraft datalink services, and aerospace systems, Jean-Marie Bégis has experience in the management of Avionics, Aircraft Datalink, and Cockpit and Cabin Information Systems Programs.

He has been directly involved in the launch and the deployment of satcom & VHF aircraft systems as well as Aircom Ground Based Services at SITA in Montréal as Director of Engineering. More recently, he has managed the Satcom antenna product line at CMC Electronics Esterline and then created the EFB and Aircraft Information Systems business unit as Product Director.

He has a Master in both Telecommunications Engineering (Telecom Paris) and Aerospace Communication Systems (Sup Aero, Toulouse).

Bilal, Syed

Syed Bilal is currently serving as a Manager for Avionics, Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity Systems at Alaska Airlines Fleet Engineering department. In this role, Syed is responsible for design, development, certification, deployment, reliability and maintainability aspects of airborne equipment related to Avionics and connectivity. In addition, Syed is actively engaged in defining the fleet engineering strategies supporting Alaska Airlines and Virgin America merger. Syed also represents Alaska Airlines as an executive member at Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee.

Prior to joining Alaska Airlines, Syed served as a Cabin Systems and Inflight Entertainment Systems specialist at Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. In this capacity, Syed supported various aspects of cabin systems and inflight entertainments system equipment for Cathay Pacific fleet.

Syed started his career at Boeing Commercial Airplanes as flight test and validation organization supporting 787 program. Syed held various positions at Boeing including Avionics Design Engineer, 777 Deputy Fleet Chief and Senior System Engineer for the 777X program.

Syed has a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Engineering from New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. In addition, Syed holds certifications in Project Management and Business Administration.

Steve Bogie currently holds the role of Senior Director, Operational Information Systems with Air Canada and has responsibility for the organization’s operational IT systems, including the strategic vision and evolution these systems. Prior to his current position Mr. Bogie has held a number of senior roles in Corporate Strategy, Airline Operations, Customer Service and Community Relations and has operated his own Aviation consulting business.

Steve has over 30 years in Aviation, mostly with commercial Airline operators from regional carriers to a major international carrier. Mr. Bogie undertook his Business Administration studies at Kwantlen University College prior to entering the MBA program at Edinburgh Business School.

Bradshaw, John

John Bradshaw is an EMEA, Business Development Manager at Honeywell for the Honeywell Vocollect solution for Maintenance & Inspection with particular focus on Aerospace based in the UK. Prior to this, he was the EMEAI, Customer Reference Manager at Honeywell Aerospace. He was responsible for leading the Customer Reference program within Honeywell and worked across all strategic business groups within the Marketing Communication function. John has been employed by Honeywell since 2011, when he joined the Marketing Communications team in Basingstoke, UK. His career has included assignments in Engineering, Marketing & Product Management and also includes connected aircraft and aerospace trading responsibilities. Prior to Honeywell, John has worked for Hunting Engineering, Rockwell Collins and AVX Corporation, heading up their European Marketing teams. John also holds private and commercial pilot licenses and has professional qualifications in Business Management, Finance and Marketing gained at the Thames Valley University in the UK. With his working knowledge and experience, he sits on a number of Aerospace related advisory boards including global speaking programs and air traffic management initiatives. He is six sigma green belt certified, gained in 2012.

Bryan, Captain Michael

Captain Michael Bryan has over 40 years and in excess of sixteen thousand hours flying experience across airline, commuter, business and general aviation sectors of the industry. He currently holds an active command on the Airbus A380. Michael is also the Principal and CEO of Closed Loop Consulting, a niche, global aviation consulting organisation specialising in, among other operational domains, eEnablement concepts, airline strategies, business cases and the important implementation of these programs. It is in this capacity he will be speaking at the 2nd annual eEnablement conference.

During the last 25 years, Michael has been appointed to a number of management roles within Airline Flight Operations, which have involved several strategic developments within the operational sphere of the global airline industry. These have included serving on various Electronic Library Systems - now Electronic Flight Bag, (EFB) programs, and three years as Chairman of the ATA / AIA “Digital Data” SGML/XML Flight Operations Working Group. He has also been, at various times, a delegate to the ATN PETAL II, and initial ATN/FANS harmonisation activities, sponsored by Eurocontrol and Boeing. Over many years, Michael has also provided project management and other consulting services to the oil exploration and marine support sectors.

Michael has been a part of aviation industry innovation since the mid '80's when he was involved in the initial ATA Digital Data standards and the very beginnings of EFB, or as it was referred to then, ELS. Apart from Captain Bryan’s broad experience in airline operations, it is his industry standards and innovation program development and implementation experience supported by the consulting capabilities within his team at the conference that he hopes will deliver valuable insight and a different perspective, which he and his team are keen to share to the conference.

Willie has helped many airlines enhance flight safety, and achieve improved productivity and reliability through adoption of onboard telematics and connectivity technologies.

 

 

Chester, Mike

Michael believes that Rolls-Royce is ideally placed to lead innovation in this space, building on a deep heritage and expertise in delivering high integrity data services through long established Equipment Health Management and Aircraft Fuel Management solutions. Michael has supported the standing up of Digital Cells across the Rolls-Royce portfolio, as well as he has been working very closely with a major partner airline on delivering the next generation of digitally-enabled services for the aerospace industry.

Michael is a chartered aerospace engineer, professional project manager and data science lead. Michael holds a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and a Masters of Philosophy in Systems Engineering.

Christensen, Michael Skou

Michael Christensen has 10 years of experience with satellite communications in the private aviation industry. From 2013 - 2016, Christensen acted as General Director for SD Australasia, and is now the Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa. His various roles throughout his time in aviation has seen him involved with many different parts of the value chain, from OEMs, completion centers and end-customers. Coiley, David

He has also authored publications about the North American DTH market, distance learning in America, U.S. foreign policy toward Latin America, and Latin American economic development.

Fatih Gunes, Mustafa

Chad Gill is currently the Product Manager of Commercial Aircraft Services at Gogo after having spent a little over a year managing telecommunication type certifications in Gogo's hardware development group. He formerly managed the Electronic Flight Bag program in the Flight Ops Technology group at United Airlines, where he assisted with the day to day management and future guidance of the program.

Chad began his aviation career with Automated Systems in Aircraft Performance, Inc. as an aircraft performance engineer responsible for the development of their web-based takeoff and landing performance and weight and balance software. He joined US Airways in 2008 as a senior engineer in their Operations Engineering group where he was responsible for the development and maintenance of their aircraft performance monitoring program He joined United in 2011 in the same capacity and helped with the implementation of their new flight planning system, as well as the harmonization of their aircraft performance monitoring program between the two legacy subsidiaries.

Chad has a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law. He is barred as an attorney in both Pennsylvania and Illinois.

Brian Hint is an Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) with the Federal Aviation Administration. For the last 7 years, he has supported the Future Flight Technologies Branch (AFS-430) located at FAA Headquarters, Washington DC. The focus of the branch is the integration of evolutionary and revolutionary technology, along with new technology-based operations, into the FAA’s vision for the Next Generation Air Transportation System. Brian is the FAA Flight Standards subject matter expert for Electronic Flight Bag and Aeronautical Information Standards Development.

Brian has over 17 years of aviation experience with both the military and civilian part 121 air carriers.

Greg has a passion for innovation in the Hospitality & Travel sector and how the passenger and guest experiences can be enhanced to provide a seamless journey across all facets of their journey.

Knobe, Bernd

After his engineering studies, Bernd Knobe had worked for a renowned engineering office in Aachen for several years. In 2003, the graduated engineer started his career in the aviation sector at Airbus. Lenamon, Larry

Larry joined Ultramain Systems, Inc. in September 2012 as the Manager of Operational Experience. Larry’s background in the aviation industry, both in and out of the cockpit, has been a beneficial asset to the support of Ultramain's industry leading Onboard Systems software division.

Larry has been involved in virtually all areas of the Onboard Systems software, from development to customer support and new business development. Projects have comprised of customer functional design work, software development, testing support, product demonstrations, presentations related to electronic flight bag and electronic logbook at industry conferences and tradeshows, industry standards development participation, as well as participation in trade publication articles.

Prior to joining USI, Larry’s primary career was in the cockpit as a Pilot for the State of Texas, Trans World Express, Trans World Airlines, and American Airlines. During a furlough from flying from the early 2000’s until recently, Larry worked as a Senior Engineer for American Airlines. His core duties involved 767/777 Fleet Operations Engineering with very active participation in AA's AIRCOM Server, EFB, ELB, FOQA, and 787 eEnabling programs along with responsibility as the AHM Administrator for American.

Larry returned to the flight deck in the Spring of 2015 at American Airlines where he is an active 737-800 first officer. Also, because of his earlier involvement in the AA EFB program, he was appointed to the Allied Pilots Association National Training Committee - IT/EFB. When he’s not out zooming around the skies, Larry continues his work with Ultramain Systems, Inc. as Director, Flight Technologies.

Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. He is married with three children.

James was appointed Technical Director in 2010 and since then has expanded the IFE product portfolio to include the Bluebox “Ai” iPad portable, “wIFE” fitted wireless streaming, and the “Wow” walk-on-wIFE streaming systems.

Today James is CTO of Bluebox Aviation Systems and leads a great software development team based in Dunfermline, Scotland.

He is responsible for aircraft communications and connectivity initiatives, along with leading United’s Connected Aircraft Program encompassing connectivity enablement across a fleet of over 725 aircraft. Prior to joining United, Luke was a Captain and Project Engineer in the United States Air Force. He has extensive experience with airborne communications gateways, datalink systems, airborne network design and IP-based communications on over 25 commercial and military aircraft platforms. Luke has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is currently completing a Master of Business Administration at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

 

Merz, Chris

A native of New York, Chris Merz currently resides in Olive Branch, Mississippi, a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee, with his wife and daughter. Chris currently works for FedEx Express in the Air Operations Division, serving as Group Engineer in Fleet Engineering. His current assignment is Engineering Project Leader of FedEx’s aircraft connectivity project dubbed ExpressLink.

Chris began his career in aviation in 1986 working for aircraft component repair facilities. Over the course of 10 years, he held positions as Technician, Engineer, Inspector, and Technical Manager. In 1997, Chris began working in the airline industry as a Master Engineer for Continental Airlines in Houston, Texas. He specialized in aircraft electrical, lighting, and fire suppression systems. In 2002 he moved to Northwest Airlines and served as Manager of Engineering Standards and Manager of Reliability Control in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After successfully transitioning the Reliability Program as part of the Delta/Northwest merger, he returned to engineering as a Project Engineer for FedEx in 2011.

Chris holds a Master of Aeronautical Science degree in Aviation Management from Embry-Riddle University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University. He received Six-Sigma Green Belt Certification from General Electric Corporation in 2003, Lean certification from Northwest Airlines in 2007, and was certified as an agile Scrum-master in 2010.

Prior to joining Panasonic Jon was Vice President Sales & Marketing for Lumexis Corporation, supplier of fiber-optic and wireless in-flight entertainment systems.

Previous positions held include:

• Executive Director of Trade Media and Events at Ink with responsibility for the Airline Passenger Experience and Airline Retail News magazines and a portfolio of international aviation industry conferences and exhibitions.

• Vice President Cabin Design Office at Airbus where he led the development of world-class cabin interiors and cabin systems for all Airbus aircraft programs.

• A350 XWB Cabin & Cargo Program Manager with Airbus.• Chief Design Engineer on the 728JET with Fairchild Dornier.

• Chief of Repair Engineering with BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft.

Jon is a Chartered Engineer with the UK Royal Aeronautical Society, a member of the APEX Technology Committee leadership team and a regular speaker at industry conferences on a wide range of cabin and passenger issues.

Eric is currently leading Digital Transformation in Airbus, focusing in the Digitalization and Connectivity of Airbus aircraft.

Eric began his career as a R&T Engineer in the civil transport segment after completing an Engineering diploma at the French school of civil aviation (ENAC) in Toulouse.

In his 25 years at Airbus, Eric held Project Management responsibilities for the design, development and certification of Navigation systems, on all the Airbus aircraft family, from A300 to A350, including military A400M and MRTT. More specifically, Eric has been responsible of the design, sourcing and development of the full Navigation suite for the A350 XWB.

Considering his exposure to the full Airbus family, he naturally moved to Strategy group, being responsible for long-term concepts impacting the orientation of Airbus R&T activities, especially in Energy, Systems and Connectivity fields.

As part of the Digital Transformation Office, he is now inspiring and developing innovative connected digital solutions on Airbus Aircraft to deliver value to Airbus customers.

Eric is married with two teenagers and enjoys photography, mountain bike, gardening and anything related to sustainable development.

Polad, Meherwan

Meherwan Polad is Director, Business Development for Exede Mobility Services at ViaSat. In his current role, he is leading business development for Exede Mobility Services, focusing on the industry-leading high-speed Ka-band mobile internet for aviation market segments, specifically in-flight broadband for commercial airlines.

Mr. Polad is a 20-year veteran at ViaSat, having filled various roles since he joined the company in 1993. Previously, he was involved in the Global Mobile Broadband group, and played a key role in establishing and growing the Yonder® Ku-band network for business aviation and maritime customers.

Prior to his roles in mobile broadband, he worked in software and firmware development, system design, link engineering, and capacity planning for various VSAT and mobile network projects.

Mr. Polad holds a BS degree from Brown University an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Davis.

For the last 10 years he particularly focused his activities on electronic operations; i.e. Electronic Flight Bag, maintenance operations, cockpit connectivity as well as A/C cyber-security architecture definition.

His 30-plus years of experience include developing one of the first commercially available Wi-Fi mobile phones. He has also worked with Fortune 500 companies on real-time solutions in big data analytics, in-memory analytics, cloud and data center networking.

Over the last 5 years he and his team defined and implemented the ‘Connected’ program of work, resulting in cockpit EFB deployment; Crew Portal outsourcing and integration; and Enterprise Mobility Management for the operation of cabin mobile devices for the crew.

Tony is passionate about providing ‘mobility’ to Operations teams, supplier partners, and the Complete Connected Aircraft. He has recently joined Inmarsat as Global Director of Safety & Operational Services to help define and deploy the next generation of high-capacity, reliable, affordable broadband connectivity solutions for the flight deck and cabin.

In October 2016, Jeff was named as the Executive Director, Aviation Information Sharing and Analysis Center (A-ISAC). As ED, Jeff sets the strategy, and is responsible for the intelligence services, operations and overall business development of the A-ISAC. In his short tenure, he has initiated intelligence development projects and a pilot program for threat detection.

Concurrently, Jeff is a Senior IT Risk Manager for General Electric Aviation. GE seconded Jeff to the A-ISAC. From 2011 through 2016, Jeff held various team leadership roles in GE IT Risk to include cyber intelligence operations, incident response, and custom tools development. In his role as a Sr IT Manager, Jeff interfaces with private and public partners on strategic initiatives to reduce IT Risk. These initiatives include sharing of cyber threat intelligence; best practices and tools to defend networks; securing the supply chain; policy development; and, compliance matters.

Prior to joining GE, Jeff spent 25 years as a Special Agent of the FBI. He retired as the Deputy Assistant Director for Cyber National Security and Cyber Criminal Investigations.

Brad Weyer is senior diirector of Connected Aircraft Solutions for Rockwell Collins Information Management Services business unit. Since joining Rockwell Collins in 1999, Weyer has held positions of increasing responsibility in engineering and program management including leading Rockwell Collins’ Boeing commercial programs, international Business and Regional OEM programs and Information Management products. A native of Texas, Weyer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University.

 

Willems, Mareijn

Mareijn achieved his MSc in Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Mareijn previously worked at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth on the F-35 program. In 2012 Mareijn joined Fokker, where he performed a variety of roles in both design and build programs. Furthermore Mareijn was in setting up the current Fokker Services Strategy in 2013. Currently Mareijn is responsible for Fokker Services’ modification product lines. In his role he is involved in the certification and installation of various modifications on a wide variety of aircraft types. Mareijn is responsible to define new products and services, where the focus is on finding innovations to apply in aerospace, of which the cooperation with Bluebox is a good example. Recent examples of successfully executed projects are wireless IFE certifications, VIP completions, In flight connectivity installations and ADS-B out modifications in a variety of aircraft types.
